Gary Whipple has been working in many aspects of the film industry for over 15 years, filming and editing his first short in 1987. A lot has changed in the film editing industry since then. To keep up with the technological changes, Gary has spent much time learning a variety of computer programs to help in the post production process. He is responsible for all of the editing, titling, animation and special effects. After filming Kosmic Karl, we discovered that the Arriflex BLeq was not running at a constant speed. The Sony DAT recorder used for recording audio was exact. The result was that the audio had to be conformed in several times a minute to get the lips to match. At one point, we half considered not adjusting the lips to match and pretending this was a foreign film. After editing the Directors version, Gary re-edited the film drastically, eliminating over 10 minutes of film and creating a much faster paced film. The result was extraordinary. Gary has a cameo appearance in the film as the Factory Boss. He is currently working on Cliff Hanger's Quest as the Director of Photography. This film is being shot in HD and DVcam for an unbelievably interesting effect. An extended trailer for the Cliff Hanger's Quest can be seen on the Kosmic Karl DVD. |
